I have very dark brown dyed hair, and this product works great for me. Yes, it takes some maneuvering and practice to pull hair through the cap in the back, but it's not THAT hard. Allow at least a 1/2 hour to pull strands though if you are doing allover highlights. After applying bleach, I find I have to process my strands for an hour (any less and they look orangey -- probably becasue my hair is dyed). Sometimes I rinse and blow dry the bleached strands with the cap still on, then apply hair color to the strands to get more precise results. Takes a good 2 hours for the whole thing, but fun and worth it.
Pros: Great value, Meets expectations
Yes, I recommend this product.

Not Worth It

This is the first highlighting kit I have ever purchased. I actually researched highlighting kits and this got top rated on some fashion magazine maybe Allure or Glamour; I can't recall. First, it was a pain to use the cap enclosed in the box because you had to pull out each strand; question how do you get the hairs pulled out on the back of your head? I used a hand held mirror and stood in front of my bathroom mirror. Secondly, I checked a strand amount 5 min. into waiting and decided to wait another 5 min. I thought it would be enough since my strand test showed it was light 5 min. into waiting time. I have medium to dark brown hair and the highlights did not show up at all; wasted $10 and about over 2 hours of my time. I read another review on CVS's website someone else said they left the color in for 60 min. and got nothing just like me but hers was the blonde highlighting kit. I questioned whether I should have waited longer but I guess that would not have mattered.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Response to "NOT WORTH IT"
Posted November 3, 2013
Dear "Not Worth it", I totally think you didn't do the highlights the way they should have been done. It usually takes a friend/relative to pull the strands through the cap. I'd say you may not have put enough of the product on your hair, or you pulled too much through the holes. Time may have been an issue as well.. I usually leave mine on about 1 1/2 hrs because I have DARK BROWN hair, and the longer you leave it on the better the result! This is the "ONLY" highlighting kit that works on my course thick dark brown hair! So, to whomever is looking for an excellent product, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND "Revlon's Frost & Glow.!" Just remember, it is a timely process, and if completed correctly, you will have awesome results.
HINT: when applying the mixture to your strand for the ALL OVER look, just put the whole mixture on your hair like you would shampoo and make sure you get EVERY bit of the strands saturated with the mixture. Also be sure you keep the CAP pulled tight so that you don't leave roots to show after!!!! HAPPY HIGHLIGHTING.! ;))

Where did you research?
Posted January 9, 2013
With enough research you should of found that it takes longer than the time you had given it to process. It is good to follow directions but sometimes its not accurate since everyone is different. I agree the process of pulling hair strand from the cap takes long and it is more difficult on your own. From my experience at the salon using the same method; it also took long. So either with or without a helping hand it's a long process. For overly dyed dark hair, it takes about 60 min. For virgin dark hair, it should take at least 20 minutes or more. Overall, I'm sorry that you did not get any results, but I believe the factor to that problem was lack of research.

I love Frost & Glow! I have used this during the summer on my dark brown hair and always get tons of compliments. It does take time and patience. Pulling the strands through the cap takes me about a half hour. Then I leave on the bleaching mixture for about an hour to really take the color out ( I normally dye my hair). This will give dramatic highlights. If I want something less dramatic or highlights a very specific color I use a home hair color on the strands with the cap still in place after processing, rinsing and blow drying the strands. A super product and real money saver.
